How to Install FFmpeg on Debian using APT

FFmpeg is a free tool (command-line based tool) which helps you with audio and video encoding in Windows, Linux, and macOS.

You can use FFmpeg to stream, record and convert any media files.

Note: The apt version of FFmpeg is the latest version. In order to get the latest stable FFmpeg version, you will need to install FFmpeg source code.

Let’s find out how to install FFmpeg on Debian (using APT)

  1. Login to your hosting account using SSH.
  2. Update Debian package lists using the below command:

sudo apt update

Install FFmpeg with apt package manager using this command

sudo apt install ffmpeg

Next check the version of it, using this command:

ffmpeg –version
